The JBBG spring tour '04 is over! Yes - it is, and I would say it was great. We played some "A Life Affair" and "Joys and Desires" concerts over Austria and Slovenia. We also recorded John Hollenbeck's new program (Joys and Desires) in the RTV Slovenia Studios - a nice place!
His compositions were totally different than I had expected, as the overall character seemed to be nerved by a stirring assembly of great textures and ambiences. Of course there were some groove parts, too - but to me that wasn't the focus, what might be uncommon for a drummer, but so much about prejudice :) In addition, Theo Bleckmann, an amazing singer and sound artist, complemented and enriched John's overall idea in a perfectly musical and unique way. The next program we are going to perform is "Tribute to Ella" by Patti Austin, but as far as I can see, there's only one concert planned. This will be tomorrow - on monday, 3rd may in the opera house of Graz. |
