Matched ...
Dec 18, 2011 at 10:15 PM

I thought my music library correlated a bit more to the contents of the iTunes Store ...

The blue line indicating 115kByte/s upload traffic has been looking just like this for the last days. I have/had to upload about 4k songs, where something around 5k songs could be matched. Man, I wish my upload speed was better than this, this is a pure waste of energy, since my laptop needs to be switched on all the time, but there's no way of pushing these tunes into iCloud without iTunes for now. Oh, and if Apple was kind enough to correct some major bugs (smart playlists dysfunctional, OTA sync of play count/play positions etc.), that would be amazing!

Security Updates
Nov 13, 2011 at 05:08 PM

Sometimes one just has to reboot a server (uptime was 192d) - and today was one of these days. There were several security updates necessary, that involved building a new base system. When using FreeBSD and building everything from scratch, this means two reboots (kernel and world). So, there may have been some interruptions in all services involved, but they were very short and almost neglectable :)

Hoof tips!
Aug 17, 2011 at 01:08 PM

I just made myself a gift, a new soldering tip, as I had to order some more components from Farnell to reduce the shipping costs. Since I rarely used hoof tips so far, but heard they'd ease up smd soldering sometimes, I decided to get an Ersa 0102WDLF16. It's not that I wasn't happy with what I got from common chisel tips (1.2/1.6mm, Ersa 0102CDLF12/16) doing smd rework so far, but these hoof tips definitely do rock.

I practiced a bit on an old Supermicro 370DE6 board reworking a TSSOP24 and a QFP44 chip housing, and here are the results. I took the pictures before cleaning the pc board, so this is of course not the final result.
