WTF VLC?
Jan 15, 2012 at 11:16 PM

Words cannot explain how much headache VLC caused my over the last years. Of course, it once was one of the most promising pieces of software around, but somehow it got stuck in this promising state for the last years. Before you say something, yes, it is a piece of open source software and therefor I could contribute as well instead of doing this rant. But I'd better not - I guess the first thing I'd do is to remove any sign of the so called GUI for OS X (don't really know the one for Windows/Linux). This is one of the the worst, I repeat the w-o-r-s-t GUIs ever released out to mankind.

Matched ...
Dec 18, 2011 at 10:15 PM

I thought my music library correlated a bit more to the contents of the iTunes Store ...

The blue line indicating 115kByte/s upload traffic has been looking just like this for the last days. I have/had to upload about 4k songs, where something around 5k songs could be matched. Man, I wish my upload speed was better than this, this is a pure waste of energy, since my laptop needs to be switched on all the time, but there's no way of pushing these tunes into iCloud without iTunes for now. Oh, and if Apple was kind enough to correct some major bugs (smart playlists dysfunctional, OTA sync of play count/play positions etc.), that would be amazing!

Security Updates
Nov 13, 2011 at 05:08 PM

Sometimes one just has to reboot a server (uptime was 192d) - and today was one of these days. There were several security updates necessary, that involved building a new base system. When using FreeBSD and building everything from scratch, this means two reboots (kernel and world). So, there may have been some interruptions in all services involved, but they were very short and almost neglectable :)
